This is the original text of the Bavarian Purity Law, enacted in 1516. Although it has been slightly amended over the centuries, it remains significant for German brewing.
It contains regulations on prices and raw materials and was intended to protect citizens from inferior additives. In short, it stands for beer quality that meets high standards with the specified ingredients of barley, hops, and water.
