Six & Twenty Distillery

Legend has it that before the Revolutionary War a Choctaw maiden, Issaqueena, was captured by the Cherokee Chief & made a slave. She overheard the Cherokee planning an attack on the trading post that housed her British lover. In an effort to warn him, Issaqueena escaped & traveled on a swift pony ninety six miles to save him.
Along the way, she named several geographical points, based on the distance from the Cherokee village (which is now drowned in Lake Keowee). From her starting point, she named Twelve Mile, Three & Twenty, and Six & Twenty Creeks on Lake Hartwell. She also named the towns of Six Mile & finally Ninety Six. The attack was unsuccessful, and the two were happily married shortly after.
You guessed it… our distillery is approximately 26 miles from the original Keowee village. Six & Twenty began producing whiskey containing all South Carolina grains; soft red winter wheat and corn from the Upstate, rye and malted barley from the Midlands, and rice from the Lowcountry. Using a custom still from Artisan Still Design, Six & Twenty Distillery produces a variety of handcrafted whiskies, bourbon, gin, and a smooth vodka. Every bottle is meticulously filled, hand corked and labeled. The bottles from each batch are precisely numbered and personally signed.

Caroline Porsiel is a master distiller and liqueurist based in East Ellijay, Georgia. She founded House of Applejay, a fine spirits and liqueur distillery, in 2022 with her mother, Sabine, crafting award-winning products like Applejay from Ellijay, Mt. Frozen Knob Vodka, and Winter Cherry Mountain Liqueur. The distillery won a 2024 Best of Georgia Award and a 2025 Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its Winter Cherry Mountain Liqueur. As a founding member of the AMBRU Campaign, launched in 2020, Porsiel advocates for the global recognition of American Brandy and Rum. She continues to drive innovation in the craft spirits industry from her active distillery in the heart of Georgia’s apple country.
