It all started with the “Kapuzinerwirt”, as house number 18 on Sattlertorstraße was called by the Forchheimers. In the revolutionary year 1848, the Josef Greif brewery was born there, which can now look back on 150 years of company history.
The name of the first brewer in the company chronicle was Johann Neuner. The brewery later belonged to Georg Wagner, and was soon followed by Johann Wagner. Eventually, Daniel Greif took over the business. However, his grandson Josef occupies a special place in this line of ancestors, because he is regarded as a far-sighted, medium-sized entrepreneur.
As early as 1928, Josef Greif had acquired the “Eiskeller” of the Schindler brewery on the König-Ludwigs-Kanal in Forchheim with foresight – a strategically important decision. Because after the Second World War, the densely populated Nordstadt arose here.
In 1925, our ancestors installed the first distillery on our estate. We have been continuing this tradition for four generations now.
