The company was founded by John Dumvill who rebranded his company to Dunville in 1825. In 1837 he added the production of blended whiskey and build the Royal Irish Distilleries in 1869. Due to huge business sales to the US the company suffered severely during prohibition in the US and closed in 1936 their prodution. In 2013 the Echlinville Distillery revived the Dunvilles brand with their own production at their facility in Ards Penisnula. This product is to be expected to enter market in 2016.
The Belfast Distillery is transforming the Victorian jail of Belfast into a 480,000-litre distillery, construction of the site is expected to complete in 2016. The location is redesigned to boast also with a ‘state-of-the-art’ visitors centre and restaurant.
